part 1 translation of poetries by dr raveendra hosadurga selected from book meravanige-samagrakaavya published by ankitha book house bengaluru

 

 

 

            Selective translation of poetries of dr.siddhalingaiah,famous poet,from poetry collection  ‘meravanige’(procession)published by ankitha prakashana,53,gandhi bazar main road,basavanagudi,bengaluru560004.   I am grateful to poet  and his family members,publishers.published in 2000.

1)    Nature:

Sun of difficulties rises daily

Sets in festival of pain

Boiling blue ocean seven hooded kalinga

Frozen pain in sky

 

Rise diging womb rule parts parts

eating mother’s patience all childern

All god –men drown and rise bathing

Has not dried up her chest’s moon light

 

Here these hills coming from somewhere

Why did they stand in deep thoughts

Having milk amrutha these  ponds(rivers) and streams

Why did they  leave  embrace of hill and  flowd

 

In your sea body in wave of sympathy

This world is floating like  ship

In dry forest your cool air blows

Rain and crop as per your chest desire

 

Did you ask who   I  am  to you

In your  hills small stream

Did you ask  what is goal of my life

In your forests song bird

 

Standing by side of road counting stars

Kept   treasure  inside chest

Pulling rain bow went rising on shoulder

To gandharva world like relative

 

In sky body  sun moon earth

Will become non existing one day as heard

Though fourteen worlds vanish, mother

Becomes light to me,  your love

2)    Village godess:

To hit of axe shaking gada gada

Wht is sufering brother

It is not tree it is not root

Village godess know brother

 

Fulfiling desire of believed people

Gave  complete life

 To  fearful   hands of forest thieves

Pities giving necks

 

Rock exploding in hills and hills

who cried khanduga broyher

rama’s servent valient hanuma’s

broke the chest see brother

 

flowing rivers neem  trees

hills themselves as  god or guru

our elders understood and lived

this people does not know todays

 

robing forest selling forest

jackals(foxes) are coming

to stop this play of wicked

human community rise ups

3)ten incarnations(dashaavatharas):

In volume of dasha avathara

Letter garland of  hundred incarnations

in this land of baked  body

bead garland of  laughing sea

 

 puting ten avatharas(incarnations) minister

nation selling  broker(comision agent)

lord of stunt(drama) of  social service

ambasider of  poison sales

 

laugh becominf smoke,smoke becoming cloud

tiger becoming cat,fox becoming peacock

kind of ten incarnatios see brother

 

in business of ten incarnations

in this herd of sheeps(kids)

where is that face of kindness

 

in noise (roar) of duplicate shyamas

in roar of rats and rodents

in  tone of   real  lord(owner)

4)When people were upset you flied like bird

In deep blue sky of india(bharatha)

Filled life spirit like mother

In feel of tired  peoples mind

 

No fans (chathra)and umbrellas(chaamaras)-

-no bahu paraks

Like king in indoan street

You walked and came,seing pained people

 embraced like father

 

roaring as black in africa rail(train)

pushing to earth who put keke(joy)

tread animal strength ,threw away from country

made to set(drown) white sun

 

to melt poisonous     snow  of caste and creeds

wandered whole country in hot sun(light)

even to grass blade  also there are prana(life) and honour

you anounced this to whole world

 

you are blessed gandhi,you are god gandhi

why did we become saitans today

why did we forgot talks of innermind

why we gave bharatha(india) sacrifice(for killing)

5) eye watch of  black godess:

Let ganga of love be flowing

 In valley of innermind(inner stage)

Let jasmine of friendship  emit fragrance

In flower garden of chest depth

 

Let lamp insects show path

In this  forest of deep dark

Let pegions fly with excitement

In sky  shrunk in fear

 

Tjere is flame  poison piercing sword(knife)

Why this fear now

When there is full moon day of  dream  poetries

Why talk of further sorrow

 

In eye watch of black godess

Let spirit blosom in life.

6)dream(dreaming):

Measuring distance between  earth and sky

 Expecting bunch of stars to get down

In forest sleep  river wabling

To see always

In un aquainted vallies love flood spilling

To melt rocks of  fear

My poetry dreams

 

carrying stones in mid day

To become coil(simbe) to  middle head(netthi)

Unrecognised childern  grumbling

To remind delivered  (begeted)

Hands sqeezing  neck at mid(odd) night

Get afraid and come down

My poetry   desires

 

In   front of stone building spilling hand siting

Sigh  to get bycoted

Caught in hits and beats

who have become  underground

lett it give answer in one jump

in fire furnace of letters

let anger be burning  dhaga dhaga

my poetry  wishes.

 

Gentleman murderers

Lawful roberers

Honourable bribe takers

Liking them when all bow their heads

My poetry pities

 

To intoxication of honour

For false advertisements posing as true

To sound of money bags

When all join their tones

My poetry becomes silent

7) song of five rivers:

Why channel of tears is flowing

In land where five rivers flow

In  house and mind all dense smoke ,sigh

Shouting dancing death  not ending

 

Madness of caste and creeds  becoming black serpents

Are pecking eyes of  kids

Where wheatt is to be grown  rifles becoming crop

Chest of innocents became pieces pieces

 

Birds stars instead of sky(cloud) line

In   neck  pressing  hand and mouth

No sound of flower  fruit bees  leg chains

Body spliting fire in earth

 

In field ,in forest, on burning rock

Poisomous  air is blowing

In waters of river ponds streama  ponda,in sea waters

Is joining blood of  brothers

 

Even close friends also  not  able to be  recognised

Dark is throwing net dancing

 Feel  osBrotherhood , equality enlighting love and affection

What happened to  coling golden light

8)birds) rising hill ,getting down hill

We are boys

Depth deep depth(paathaala) fearful pain

We have seen

 

Watching sheeps ,grazing cattles

Went without drinking milk

Without getting luck of reading and writing

Grew with plants

 

Washing salive(enjalu) removing cattle urine

 Who laboured withou seing paste(ganji)

 Becoming colours of temples and towers

Collapsed without tolerating

 

Burning leaves in burning sun light

We are particles of ashes

Flowers   drying up before  spliting(blosoming) only

Shrinking coloured  dreams

 

Not knowing time directionless

Travellers of split path song of pain land of darkness

Light searching  birds.

10) sound:

 Dancing whirl air,fence crossed snale

Sound of wanderin cock  heard

From above  big rock baadabakka flower

falling getting tired only heard

 

wall of mid hall  sleeping in cradle

no   sound  of dolu vaalaga drum

to progeny of  crow kokila  bird crane

no sound at all without water and shadow

 

in line of shop no  hint of  people(dense)

no concesion also as usual

all is sold what next

worry grown in   eyes of broker

 

body filling stoping  godesses hided talk

around temple palm(katthale?) has grown

words becoming dull in front of  people ocean

silence  only has  stood  stagnant

 

upset night chasing crossing border

playing chest which sound came

is it wishper of murderers this sound

is it death of innermind heard.s

11)victory celebration:

In owner’s(lord’s) victory  celebration

What work to people like us

 

Let us do appreciation of  elephants

Which tread tender kids

Keeping fire to village and village  thiking that-

-we have become light to world

Priding people  we shall congradulate

 

Who have given donation (datthi) we shall-

- praize by rising tone

 

Mahisha killed by chamundi

Taking birth in our town as kadira

As maramma’s husband paidead pelalty

Taking birth as kadira,keeping it as secret

Is his crime

Because theses godeses

Are high walls standing between  caste and caste

 

Weapons hided in banni

Question asking boy

 farmer asking rate

on labourer asking wages

let not attack

 

like sound of oven burning in hut

let life be true   like poetry line writen on

 compound wall  be simple.

12)purushaartha:

Elders siting on house roof   are those

who  got  baked  and tired in flame of love

filled up chest,red lip,full eye light

finding meaning of life twinkled

 

where ever there  growing jasmine creeper

troubled seen lotuses

lip coming near love becoming height

making cloud to shy,who  made water  to flow

 

dance of day and night sound of flowing rivers

there was beauty in neighing of horses

in small hut getting body sold

was depth in pain of female

 

in front of god made body thirst to dry

what happened to childern of devadaasies

opposing(bicoting) god,  believeing humanity

became thorn to chest of haves(rich)

 

in naked empire(state) as king and queens

did gandharva business

to delicate sleeping in hot embrace

no memory of caste and creed not even a little

13) people who became dull:

Blosoming in soil.twinkling in sky

People coming as light

Hundreds of chariots  running day

Why didyu stand dull

 

Full of this land making to flow laugh flood

bringing crop pallakki(……..?) people

earth flaming burning, dry land pouring

why did water dry up.

 

He is my brother  be is my brother

Whole world relaitive

desire of this inner mind

Can’t   get body

 

Broken dream again rising head

Will it not shine    as green

Removibg dark  entering mind

Will    not new world   be seen

 

Joy to pained to hungry food

To tired head roof

Washing face of fallen people

Let hubdred come lifting hand

13) fire setters:wh

While earth was burning brought ganga

Who gave shoulder when building collapsed

Those who brought one fallen to pond

Fire setters uor brothers.

 

Though day id burning though mid night

As soon as called leaving wife and childern

Come running

Eating cold meals  rushing to forest of smoke

Those who fightonce in many days seing gut’s buds

Spilling   laugh   fire setters our beothers.

 

Feaver  of caste enemity   is rising brother

Fire of communal enemity is burning  brother

To put off this fire love ganga(water) is needed

Today all should  becomes fire  seters.

15) ugadi-1:

Delivery pain of land melting inch by inch

Dance of green bud flower laugh vision

Had brought twins relation of sky king

To trees and plants  group  gift festival

 

 songcolour to flower bunch,to little bird

to hill bold of rising and standing chest

to river water  lukewarm

to    air shadow  cool brought ugadi

what did you bring  to collapsing worrying life

 

lives drying up without blosoming

like star  non lahghing  lives

bodies which can’t  stand with straightened  chest

while pecking eye whose ugadi is this?

 

 

Sorrow of street dweller dark of hut

 For daily food selling body

Hand stretched in desire of bribe taker

Will it not vanish even epochs epochs are spent

16) yugadi-2:

O yugadi as usual

Though bringing joy

Brought pain with mango

Whatever others say

 

Pains rising to sky

Have flied(done flight)

for life crowd

has done fight

 

became festival to those who ‘have’(rich)

became potry to poet group(family)

what happened to ‘have nots’

tell yugadi

 

bringing heaven to earth

enjoying people

green wearing plants,yellow wearing  trees

answer to this

 

removing all wickeds of life

let new yugadi  become

pain of everybody’s chest vanishing

let new life come

17) yugadi-3:

New life of new feel

Let new yugadi open

In moon light of love

Let earth forget body

 

Deep dark of wickedness vanishing

Let bird song sound

 in eye  light    of kid

 let new yugadi come

 

laugh flood of epochs epochs

let flow without drying

weight of noga(…….?) of world shoulder

become light by reducing

 

fire fallen to tree putng off

again  garden bud out

in hearts which have become distant

let friendship feel grow

18)yugadi -4:

Day before on the day of release of mondela

Coming this yugadi

Jail dwellers of caste and creed

Will   release and bring

Towards   field of love and humanity

 

Kiling  seen found  people by shooting

For the day of enquiry of  human lions

Like old man waiting siting

Yugadi is prophet of hopess

 

Yugadi of this time

Like dream of middle aged man

Like soft words of bribe taker

like rising rate,downing dignity(prestige)

let not be worry pproducing(chinthajanaka)

 

in midst of green of people crowd

let flowers of  relations blosoming

joy of equality

let season vasantha(spring)  anounce

 

from epochs epochs burning burning

in forest of people mind

found in eye of little kid

let dream remain upto end

18) karl marx:

All truths of world which were concealed

To know steps on thorns

Awakening human race in dwowsiness(covered)

To labours you stood as  eye

 

Like a directionless bird in forests

You found darks of difficulties

After entering knowledge forest came out

Silver star who  made to shine earth

 

Under  mill(?) machine  whose hand was crushed

Poow woman who is selling body

Whose roof is collapsed,upset by hunger

Among these only you found yourself

 

Instead of  patching torn cloth

Found dream of bringing new cloth

To blosom flower of laugh in pained chest

Building fighta dreamed

19)benjamin molayis:

golden ore of earth’s depth

Was knowing only fruits of garden

 white king today sleepless

growing around his palace

new crop of  bycot(dhikkaara)

not able  to eat fasting person

who was knowing  his caste dog(jaathi dog ?) only as very close

white king is alone in front of procesion  of crores of people

 

revolution lamp which was twinkling dull  in dark of africa

 

sudenly enlighted all ten directions.

Magician mondela  had become oil

Benjamin molayis was wicks

 

Knot of death had embraced  neck of benjamin

Death had come to  empire of  whites

To hits of boot leg,to bite of mad dog

To blind rule of  colour rifles

 

Who gave answer of blood

Not afraid of hanging pillar

Benjamin molayis

Your sacrifice is not a waste

 

Under big rock green buding

Gets form of grass meadow

River of delivered guts(intestine)

Cuts and throws  away colour differentiation

Black heart’s silver light

Removes dark of white chest

20)ramachandrasharma - 70:

Though born in bhogadi,no desire of bhoga(enjoyment)

No pride of yogi

Sharn’s is whole(partless) life love

 

To those students who have found his naughtyness  jealousy

Wonder to girls

 

To talk and talk  putting  keke laughing sharma

In him there are two drops of tears to those who have fallen

 

Let always be  critics discussing  

Position of sharma in kannada literature

Sharma is bee attached to  lotus of kannada poetry

Nobody’s difference of openion  about this

 

To sharma who does not believe god

Blind belief of believing people easily

On cuting hairs  appearing as buddha

Shudra many times

Bulganin beard wearer

 

Shudra is not  naughty

Shudra’s is not of body of dejection(vyragya)

To talk with girls

At the time when latent lovers were fearing

Shudra rushed forward and taught

Marxisn to lasses(youths)

Mother’s mind shudra is siting

Under banyan tree(bodhivruksha)

In many worries

22) desire:

Love of bharatha mother filling flowing

In form of ganga and kaveri

Seing national flag singing national anthem

Get excited all tender childern

 

Pain of attacks  in difficulty of bondage

Tired  childern of this mother

Forgeting body in differentiation of caste creed language

As though not recognised  shall they live

 

In storm of sun light upseting heat

Have mooved together  daily

Who poured poison which magic’s result

Have we  to fall   in hatred and flames

 

Awakened crores of peoples lift their tone and sing

Dark of splits  have  been  spent

In garden of people’s mind flower of unity blosoming

Once again life charm  appeared

23) these gods:

To noise of drum jumping sky high

dancing hopping putting keke

still not yet come sister kariyamma

sheds tears  valient anjaneya

 

to save god from air rain chills

preventing devotees trying to build temple

to all peoples of town till house is got

to me temple is not needed this kancharaya

 

seing  collapsed child’s   putting off eye light

carry tender kid to hospital

who brought again  lost child’s life

yellamma mother from where she is

 

if problems of devotees are not solved

burning  pungent small of  chilli how to bear

though on horse feared and upset

cow dung(sagani) is of which origin

 

not knowing sanskrit not residing in heaven

black godesses are  bear footed

rich of wonder, our elder’s dream

living together with us as body

24)love and foretelling(prediction):

To chariot of town and town throwing fruit  and scented leaf(davana)

Gave life to all festivals

Holding full moon day making love medal

Brought light to depths of dark

 

Came for asking bride desire of groom pating

Ship dashed to rock stone

Spilling tears  blamed castes

Like directionless birds sounding(praying)

 

One to whom problens come severe relation of  astruloger

Wandered amd found young man astrologer

With loved female go miles(yojana) of distance

Don’t stay in this town even for half moment

 

They went like storm fast

Diging directions like released arrow

Crossing seven hills cuting clouds

Twinkling bunch of stars

 

This side  telling late in coin noise

Astrologer came to house with speed

‘forget  one who desired for love and went’

Found letter of   lovely daughter

Spoiled intellect

One went to anounce truth

Pushed to house of falseness(myth.mythya)

 

Une who told  earth rotates

Made him to rotate around them

One who told earth is global

Made his intellect blunt

 

One who told god is not there

Made him god

One whold no ten incarnations  false

Rised to eleventh

 

To one who stood oppsite to owner(lord)

Gave leg of elephant

Who rised rebel

Tied to leg of chariot

27)song of chill:

Cill came

On earth chill came

 

Covering wolllen blamket(kambali)  of snow

Like  thief without speech

Had passed through  door hole

Had held who  who were found

 

Snow cap to all trees

 Silver cloth to hill line

Where ever found festival of dew drop

Who came who went

Is not at all known

 

Was making to shake gada gada

Teeth  played thabala(drom)

Hands and legs danced

Did not spare poor

Did not leave riches

Did never leave fashion girl

Chill came

On earth chill came

 

Made to sit those who had slept

Those who had sit made to  stand

Those who had stood made them to run

Chill came

 

The valient who wins chills

Has no money to drink coffee

No money to drink coffee

 

Fearing to chill male and female

Trying to eat fruit on love

Delivered childern

In house and house full town

 danced and stood

 

by trouble of  tough(gayyali) wife

by joy of having escaped

in early morning one clerk

 was about to go to duty

after crossing front door

high hit on nose

chill has held

by planing chill hhad caught
