            Mudduramana arivu: a collection of poems( choupadies)   composed by sri k.c. shivappa great poet,philosopher  and visionary,translated by dr.raveendra hosadurga.i am  grateful to poet and his family members.published by abhinava prakashana,17/18-2,first main road,marenahalli,vijayanagara,bengaluru 560040.Translation is my hobby.please excuse and correct if any mistakes.:

 

Part 1:to know  theme is  knowledge(consciousness?):

 

What  is there which is  equal to knowledge in world?

For life progress knowledge is needed.

Won’t use This knowledge   boat of sea shore  ;

 Boat if in water-muddurama.

1)to cross big ocean  rising small boat

  About to move boatman’s mind  how is it!

Goal is too big;determination is also  great;

Knowledge –behavior friends-muddurama.

 

2)  using intellect spoon (soutu),pouring feel  of cooked food

Put in santharpane’s  hungry plate.

Where is cool of love there is gentlemanship;

Knowledge is life initiation(deekshe,consecration)-muddurama

 

3)what if writen and slept?what if slept  and  writen?

How is composition  matter  isoncerned!

Sathva(goodness) is  for  fragrance not for kind of flower blosomed ;

To know knowledge (theme)is consciousness-muddurama.

 

4)not in blossomed flower  not even a little step sound;

Not  in pouring rain , pride of  giving.

Why burning  ego in this human chest?

In knowledge  there is silence-muddurama.

 

5)if desire of  money dries up,if desire joy reduces,

source of anger  if dries up,he is boundless.

‘ones kerahina(………….?)    meditation‘     won’t bring  god’s knowledge;

knowledge is support (base?)of joy-muddurama.

 

6)to know yourself, education is means only

Don’t fly  away in  air of information.

  if balanced mind is not got  What is  use by learning that education

knowledge is inner science-muddurama.

 

7)fickleness organs ‘s  worries are hundred

Will mind desire  for supreme  highness?

Where is light to life(jiva) which is servent of senses(sense organs?)?

Behavior itself is knowledge-muddurama.

 

8)you may be eating with laugh in golden plate,

Is it possible for you to eat gold?

Richness is a means,that itself is not life goal

Let knowledge come to life-muddurama.

 

9)telling you are indra you are moon  people  bring garland;

This garland is not for you, for your chair(post,throne).

Become deaf to praise,become blind to blame;

 You  Know solid theme(purula,hurula)-muddurama.

 

10)to each profesion there is it’s  own skill art

Practice(master?) such  kind of skill

To learn in environment  there sre many newnesss(modern things)

Horizon of knowledge is great –muddurama.

 

11)what if stood by  strength of single leg

Will crane get brightness of penance.?

Will miser get greatness of karna’s donation?

Greatness is in talk-muddurama.

 

12)what ever may be kind of paper you write;

What you have writen is more important.

Milk kept in soil pot will it not be tasty?

Highness only to theme(thirulu)-muddurama.

 

13)where  there is arrangement (acchukattu?)  there is no congestion;

To mind beauty let there be  boundary square ,

To get totality  is needed proper language

Highness is secret of success-muddurama.

 

14)if curd is added to milk ,milk becomes  curd

Becoming butter itself ,will not become ghee?

Where ever there is truth  there is dimension of  fruit(result)

Form of solidity is like this-muddurama.

 

15)let it be this or other world,let there be forgetfulness or knowledge

If highness(ghanathe,solidity)appears   where is supreme sign?

In solid form there is one  line of simplicity

Don’t spoil existance-muddurama

 

16)neglicting  what exists(is present),desiring for another

Response towards  what we does not have why!

Disappearing  sand tower  is our goal

Is knowledge  mirage-muddurama.

 

17) without touching soil  will pot maker make pot?

Without leather  will cobler do pumping?

Without pressing spark will iron smith make sword?

Work is  theme of life-muddurama.

 

18)excess of luxury  like pulling towards interest(rakthi)

Brings very pain unnecessary talk .

For control of mind is needed  extrardinary  logic;

One’s knowledge itself is  power!-muddurama.

 

19)you protect yourself, by walking in good path,

Cleverness is not wrong,wickedness is bad.

By standing in front of tiger don’t become victim yourself;

Good viveka (descrition)itself is knowledge-muddurama.

 

20)closing eye of  knowledge  will you tell life is dark(black)?

Opening old food box  will you  tell  old(delayed)?

Pricking golden needle will you tell no pain?

Tilt to wakeful(awakened) walk-muddurama.

 

21)won’t push in mind useeless(themeless) facts;

Don’t use mind like a basket.

How much amount of  information will not open door of consciousness

Know kind of viveka(descrition)-muddurama

22) there is  knowledge of which is right in us;

Don’t allow inside sins and defects.

If you honour them,they will not leave  you  without swallowing

23)whether snake  has done  house in huttha(snake house) or not!

Why do you keep hand playing?

Knowing presence of poison  better to be away;

Good by care-muddurama.

 

24) giving hand to huttha(snake house) telling snake has biten

Shouting  crying way is not  proper.

By jumping in  well  telling I died how?

Care itself is decision!-muddurama.

 

25)in blow of storm why do you open umbrella?

Why to  enter   boat  in noise of ocean?

In net of anxiety  why to get caught and sufer?

Carefulness is good viveka-muddurama.

 

26)to beautiful doll who can fill life?

Using snow stone(alikallu)  can house be built?

Using broken pot  can rice be baked?

Many impossibles-muddurama.

 

27)who can prevent force of flowing river?

Lightning of sky can you catch?

Noise of sea waves  can you press?

Many can’t be caught -muddurama.

 

28)Where there is controversy  there is kurukshethra

To good bright of clear mind  song moon!

For development of balanced  mind that is  knowledge lamp;

Words of krishna(mountain  wearer)  know- muddurama.

 

29)if a piece of sandal is carved  that is statue(image);

If flowers are kept in  front  it is dedication!

By strength of skill , holy bath (abhisheka)of beauty;

Intellect is  is power movement-muddurama.

 

30) what is told,seen,pictured forms

 Is Reflected in half moment  in world hand!

What a techniquical knowledge! what a progress!

Jangamavani  (mobile) is wonder-muddurama.

31)no  facility of today’s internet

Communication   facility  centuries before.

But there was  on that day  concentration loneliness

Kind diferent ,tone diferent-muddurama.s

 

32)if rhyme  joins and comes will you become vyasa?

By singing only  you are not gandharva

Walking in sky don’t say I am bird;

To know limitation is cleverness-muddurama.

 

33)as there is eye in face  how will you see behind?

if there is net in hand will you catch tiger?

Leave desire of  filling whole sea water in joined palm(bogase);

If limit is known that day is good-muddurama.

 

34)body becoming light flying above

Dream of becoming a star in sky.

If this body merges in solid(ghana)  high;

To goal body is media!-muddurama.

 

35)if oven is not touched by kenda(burning  charcoal) how will it burn?

To wood(stick) friendship of fire is needed.

A cook who does not bake  why subordination of spoon(soutu)?

Paka means  theme(summary,tasty food))-muddurama.

 

36)what appears as wrong  better if corrected;

If not rectified  path forgoten  forest severe  ghora(……….?)

Again if mistake committed  life is  very horrible.

Experience  itself is high way-muddurama.

 

37)seing curved(bent) why do you become bent?

Using kernal(thirulu,theme) of brain  open inner eye!

If   whole life is not accepted,you are fish in bait

By intellect only siddhi(accomplishment)-muddurama.

 

38)dream to become real  firm decision is needed

 Like by it’s own will bud becomes flower

Formation of  chastity (charithrya…………?)is   result of distant vision!

Become flower become fruit-muddurama.

 

39)after birth  celebration  end in death;

In tne middle this life’s naked view.

How is jasmine to knot,so  tears to eye;

Nobody knows all !-muddurama.

 

40) if childhood is reserved for studyship

Will not life enlight in forth coming days?

‘Childhood education is protective ‘ this word is true;

Education is dependency(supportive )!-muddurama.

 

41)by education only sayings,by education only power;

Opening akkshara dhama teach culture.

For gentleship life  education is basemet stone;

Education is spirit-muddurama.

 

42)house of knowkedge  is one culture’s mother house;

If added with education there is kindness.

In learning there is theme(summary) of life;

Great is akshara dhama(letter house)-muddurama.

 

43)if earning every moment  with interest that is education;

If collected particle by particle  that is wealth.

If affection ego  empty(jollu) if thrown that is knowledge;

Later  liberation-muddurama.

 

44)how is plant from seed,like that taste by fruit

Education by letter,life from breath.

From curd butter,by behavior uplift;

Spirit is by knowledge-muddurama.

 

45)learning music if practice is left

Is like forgeting money hiden in  ground.

if doors and windows are closed  where is light in room?

Learning is result of meditation-muddurama.

 

46)composing air tower  can you sleep there?

Can you construct  boat and run on earth?

By composing paper flower  can you get fragrance?

Kn ow  curiosity of composition-muddurama.

 

47)bag on shoulder,delicacy of oration,

Hundred  quoted words  won’t bring ssasthriship.

It needs scholarship and base touching(thalasparshi………..) studies.

Recapitulation(manana) of  scriptures itself is  knowledge-muddurama.

 

48)to press thumb is a knot to progress;

Letters if not learnt  will not come trouble?

Be reading books,be learning mathamatics

Literacy is preferable-muddurama.

 

49)how much came then?how much  went  now?

How much remained?let acount be proper

Let there be care about   income and expenses always;

Better if maths is known-muddurama.

 

50)on oven if water is boiled contineously

When are you going  to use it and bathe?

If you  throw net and become drowsy how will you catch fish?

Learn expertise  of use-muddurama.

 

51) before sunrise onlyflower has blosomed

In feel of dedication  to his welcome

Enough is this sleep ;rise up quickly

Become ready to prayer-muddurama.

 

52)in esha temple is eye light dirt?

In base of shiva meditation  soond(word) unholy?

In sharana  words gadana(gathering,,multitude?) ‘talk itself is light  linga’

Knowledge itself is real character(nijaguna) chastity-muddurama.

 

53)if saint opens  lip that  itself is feel wave;

That is rich flood of truth(real),that itself is buddha  speech.

For equality and simplicity  beautiful picture  enclosure(aavarana);

That talk itself is wonder-muddurama.

 

54)by more talk  more mistakes is natural;

If there is dry chat it is dificult to  sit.

Limiting conversation tilt towards  silence

Limited  talk favourable  dhathu( verb  root,element,semen……?)-muddurama.

 

55)like allowd arrow talk  spoken once

One way movement like street walk

Word which has left lip can be got back again?

Control of speech is high(better)-muddurama.

 

56)if an arrow pierces  can be removed and lived;

If serpent bites it can  be cured.

All got loans can be repaid;

Will you get back words?-muddurama.

 

57)where with whom how to talk how much

One who can speak  there is no pain.

Let argument be  limited comfortable ,be leaned to humbleness;

Talk is root of life-muddurama.s

 

58)what is  repeating same again again

Why do you become enemy to people’s peace?

By moderate talk forward of welfare!

Less talk ,more joy-muddurama.

 

59)noisy talk  holding  abnormal path

Iike drowning bathing in waterless  river.

Let  words be meaningful; not only mechanical

Don’t make woed bonthe(quilt ?)-muddurama.

 

60)talk missing balance ,step missed walk

like sqeezing sour  in  fresh foamy milk.

Let there be smoothness in talk,let there be rhythm in walk ;

To word let behavior bring value-muddurama.

Don’t  yield to laugh in front of people.

A word  left out of lip is like shooted arrow!

Don’t talk without thought-muddurama.

 

62)by recreaters of word  much devaluation to talk

Like manikya (rubi  ?) becoming wild liquorice(gulaganji)

Why they compare grass blade to kousthubha!

Let there be care in talk-muddurama.

 

63)somebody while puting forth their feeling

Not gentlemanship to  poke nose(to put head) in middle.

When queue comes  only better to talk;

Don’t open mouth in middle-muddurama.

 

64)matter not acceptable to mind  when brings  imbalence(unequal)

If jumped and talked hundreds of troubles.

If mind is not peaceful  disaster  rushes!

Control of talk is better-muddurama.

 

65)beyond this world  what ever  may happen

This world knows it in half a minute.

What an information knowledge!what a vastness!

Universe is a small village-muddurama.

 

66)if not matured is it fruit?if brought  rasa is it fruit!

Change of sour to sweet is trick (wonder) of this world!

New vibration(paluku) of experience  is wonder  time sound! 

New new is life rhythm-muddurama.

 

67)butter of experience geting heated in  flame of knowledge

When becomes clear ghee  that is mysticism(anubhaava)

Wonder of beautiful thoughts   morning (light)of mind

Mysticisn if  heart light-muddurama.

 

68)stunt of show off  can be called shivayoga?

High peak of union (merging) mysticism

along with street products comparison  of  manikya?

Count,leave leave,not acceptable!-muddurama.

 

69)no drowning (seting)and rising to sun;where  are  day and night?

In awakened mind is there joy and pain?

In force of division  no sign of inner  tone;

One mind itself is experience-muddurama.

 

70)to body  to become distant  relation of light is needed;

For destruction of bhava(this world,loukika,mundane)  is needed mysticism

For maya to disappear is needed knowledge’s vachana(words);

Good intellect is guruship(greatness)-muddurama.

 

71)myness feeling mine,excess of egoness

If crosses border  on that day only fall begins

Crossing lakshmana (limit)line why to embrace worry?

Knowledge is light of divinity-muddurama.

 

72)layer of mine tearing  when mind becomes clear

Flashes great consciousness,that is feel renunciation.

Loses colour all things sudenly;

Collection of knowledge is high-muddurama.

 

73)if vision  becomes bent(defective) ,will not creation ?

 To us loss very much  by ete burn.

Let innerview  be  beautyful to response to beauty;

Eye is enoyment of view-muddurama.

 

74)if bindings are losened theme joy interest;

If paramartha (transcendent) joins  kaivalya vision.

 High  principle (paraththva) if flashes,if fades myness;

If appeared and loved  picture-muddurama.

 

75)for  paramartta   (transcendental)achievement,inner house of silence  heed(observation);

For world presence (saamprathi….) eye closing game.

If beauty is seen  standind on sea shore

Like that become upwards faced-muddurama.

 

76) form taste fragrance(smell)  tone  covering frequently

In mind no  joy good feel.

In dress of recreation  no  entry  of naturaality;

Is paramartha(transcendental)   mere dream?muddurama.

 

77)seen to outside  vision  lamp itself is light?

See see there ;this talk is not real.

If no oil with wick  where is light?

Is lamp symbol of intellect?-muddurama.

 

78)lamp is there,oil is there,wick is there,stick is there;

 Without striking stick  how to enlight lamp?

From one to  one more lamp’s series;

Daily dizling (droplet) light-muddurama.

 

79)facing towards light  if intellect power is  not requested

Where is spirit(chaithanya) in thama(dark) body?

If we cross and stand  valley of fear  there is fulfilment;

Power  group  is light!-muddurama.

 

80)by desire and greed cover (enclosure,avarana)of thamas;

For those who know real path no fear;

By side of purity  worryless joy is there;

Better is path of light-muddurama.

 

81)apart  from  body will disease  attack athma(self)?

Apart from disease to body  is there pain to mind?

Egolessness is move towards light;

End of thamas itself is  ligh (jyothi)!-muddurama.

 

82)without sense objects drying up  what if head is bald?

If there is  mis behavior  if  paduka(holy footwear) is worn ?

Without maturity of mind what if safron (kaashaayais worn?

Is saintness easy-muddurama.

 

83) by wearing  safron will you become saint?

It needs  in mind  feel of nakedness.

From detached base  jangamaship is born(blosomed);

One’s   consciousness itself is eshathva-muddurama.

 

84) Beyond knowledge  by  mere barren words

Where is divine decision?where is path of joy?

To wear consciousfulness (chinmayathe)   is real  meditation(contemplation);

All is inside us only-muddurama.

 

85)when there is coolness of cool air why penance of tumult?

When there is sprout  dizling  why matured(thani)  burning   char coal?

When there is coolness of moon  why noise of drum?

Indulgement  is peak!-muddurama.

 

86)in circumference of inner mind  freedom spreading feather

If no binding  that is divinity!

Whwn there is no fascination  then consciousness  gets enlighted;

Relief from desire is light-muddurama.

 

87)when recapitulation(manana) enters, chest  picture changing

Becomes one  supreme post vision,

In moving  new turn,there is  thought  vision;

Surender to union-muddurama.

 

88)in front of consciousness  ocean  you are little drop!

In base of knowledge mountain  you are grass blade!

If stood facing sky  there is solid light;

You are earth’s ray wave-muddurama.

 

89)first goal  is not clear; later fixed form.

how much searching play   rising it’s back!

When stood at peak of achievement  only ‘shunya’(field,bayalu);

World some how upset!-muddurama.

 

90)there is region to creeper flower;is it present to base root?

Ocean has boundary ,has flowing river has?

Body has tone limit; is it  to field air ?

Has shunya circumference?-muddurama.

 

 91)To circumference there should be a centre  of it’s own;

Centre  is sorrounded by hundreds of circles.

 How many ever may be  shape , should be with centre;

If centre is forgoten shunya(bayalu)-muddurama.

 

92)concept of zero  what a vision of solid (ghana)  mind!

What a boundaryless unlimited  stand!

This feel of infinity  is very transparent!

Talent is great(mahimanvithavo?.....)muddurama.

 

93)when another illusion is found  in  a  thing

It is imposition(superimposition),ignorance,avidya

It is beyond  word,beyond form and touch

Brahma means shunya-muddurama.

 

94)is there any exact cause  to come this side?

Before coming here where were you?

In which form you will disappear  that side?

How to know athma?muddurama.

 

95)as we  see outside  can’t we see inside?

With interest if dispassion(virakthi) joins  thathva(principle)

At two height of noga(yoke)let there be union of iha and para

(this and other world);

Yoga means this much only-muddurama.

 

96)i am diferent you are diferent when told  two minds!

When I become you  no chest beat.

When lake becomes ocean where is diferent water?

Union is journey of field(bayalu)-muddurama.

 

97) somebody came slowly; don’t know why  they came.

Are going some where , who have come first

Why people are here?what are their roles?

Who am i?who I am?-muddurama.

 

98)whether in soil fire air water field(bayalu)

In which ever form! No it’s knowledge

This jiva joins you  on  some  day other;

On that day I am you only!-muddurama.

 

99)showing path to town , to inform distance

There is one mile stone(hand post)  as base of journey.

Forgeting going some where  do n’t complain compass (diksuchi)

Know grand pillars(sthamba)-muddurama.

 

100)what ever flashes to you  need not be truth;

Each dimension has  one vision.

In unequal vision  where vision of real(truth)?

Know eternal vastness-muddurama.

 

101)for achievement there is one hook;that is will power,

Action to get form  intellect power is needed.

For work movement  somewhere determination relation;

Let sincirity(truth) emit in mind-muddurama.

 

102)what if colours are many ?Bright of only one ray

What if names are hundred?only one god.

How many may be path ; only one  goal.

Truth is only one in world-muddurama.

 

103)meals play walk are daily routine;

By truth search  life’s paramartha(transcendent)

Brush of which  patch  has pictured totality  ?

Knowledge of truth  itself is  world journey-muddurama.

 

104)for truth search only this  knowledge and science

If dharma(religion) faces towards  divinity

Science rolls  towards t  base  of  truth  (thathyamsha (neleyatlli)

Important is intelect upliftment-muddurama.

 

105)is heard to ear wishper of sky;

There no long sigh ,no fear

In dew drop picture ;this is ray,this is wonder

Exciting   is play of truth –muddurama.

 

106)before enlighting  and enjoying  flower mathapu(blue light)

Remember  behind it sweat drops.

Light rich is not  mere noise and fun;

Knowledge of truth itself is lamp-muddurama.

 

107)in which decision  how much more kindness

That much  solid  such decision.

Mere logic grammer  will not bring  desirable  happiness;

First is humanity-muddurama.

 

108)knowing temporariness  why build  temple and get tired

Like dog falling shouting in oven ash?

If knowledge  eye is not opened what how much is there?

Know sorrowful story of world-muddurama.

 

109)regarding failure and success ,regarding  maintainance of time

About development of personality how many hand books!

To know oneslf why no d compass (direction indicater)

Athma(self) aquaintence is difficult-muddurama.

 

110)if dead body rising up  and informs real story

Before rising voice will kill again.

Many true facts  are  merged in sea depth;

Search of self(athma) is zero-muddurama.

 

111)leaving  centre of matter,rounding in circumference

Why do they fight?simply bark?

Drilling root of silence ,to praise words creeper

What happened to intellect here?-muddurama.

 

112)in front of self witness no other stunt(drama,acting);

To accept mistakes  character is  divine feature!

Wicked runs back  looking  good’s face;

High is repentence-muddurama.

 

113)like  godess(maari?) of cloud  sounding rain is falling

Where is silence  and   peace in  house and mind?

Throwing away noise welcome silence;

Wearing silence is better-muddurama.

 

114)behavior is base stone;if sliped pathaala(deep depth)

Hundreds of  atonements won’t bring greatness.

If  falseness comes holyness is   empty;

Is jolly tree sandal-muddurama.

 

115)in face  to face  of  new real fact

 You  correct your wrong decision.

To tell milk is white,why shy now?

Truth is not two faced-muddurama.

 

116) on some  day in future  maya screen falling down

By truth vision(self realisation) rises knowledge,

To know oneself  that itself is path,handpost;

Guru means this knowledge-muddurama.

 

117)joy of celebration  how much to whom only that much;

Only bogase(joined palmful) of water  not less not more.

Matured fragrance of sandal  their their good luck;

All is pre decided-muddurama.

 

118)which bird how  comes near sits!

By which boon  words become poem!

To which statue arathi of campher

Which rain drop where!-muddurama.

 

119)where   initiation of enquiry  there light of satisfaction;

Surendering to that great house(maha mane) you live.

If you don’t walk you are lame; if not knowing you are  handicaped

Why do you become blind-muddurama.

 

 120)having this much of intellect ,having knowledge of shankara

Why man slips in slope!

Is  there life in forgetfulness?life  itself  is shadow of forgetfulness?

Will life not enlighted-muddurama.

 

121)when  you are  saint(good) your will power

To become realised  it has god’s grace.

By purity of feel will not dream come true?

Love thought  madige(cleanliness……?)-muddurama.

 

122) if shown by fingure let there be indication of safety;

Let mark of solution  seal be there.

Mere mistake scoldings  let  not come there

Let knowledge reside-muddurama.

 

123)listening to bhagavadgitha  arjuna became controlled;

Showing greatness of gift  shibi got blessed.

By giving cloth to female  shyama became srinidhi;

bY praising(sthuthi)  became hanuma.

 

124)here this much found;heard  this much;

By remembering  knew this much;felt this much.

Without seing listening  not remembered  how  much!

What more is there in it!  -muddurama.

 

125)in life there is much which is not reachable to intellect !

What is reached  within that only  how much got formed!

that  form   in knowledge  how much  got digested  and  stood!

What is got  that much  is ours-muddurama.

 

126though attached not attached type like lotus leaf our

Life be this desire is not becoming true!

in one future birth it may happen!

Let us remember god-muddurama.

To sky who gave piece of wood(bodige,capital?) and made to stand!

To all trees  and creepers who gave roots?

Who kept curd and butter in milk!

Who is eternal truth-muddurama.
