translation of poetries of dr. mudnakudu chinnaswamy 'solid poet' (ghana kavi) by dr.raveendrahosadurga:


Translation of poetries of  dr .mudnakudu chinnaswamy, ‘solid poet’ (ghanakavi) by dr raveendra hosadurga. These are selected from ‘samagra saahithya,volume(samputa) 1-kaavya(poetry)  published in 1918 by  kannada pusthaka praadhikaara,kannada bhavana,j.c. road, bengaluru-560002. I am grateful to poet and his family members  and publishers.translation is my hobby .please excuse and correct if there are any mistakes.

When paining by being caught
 in  unsolvable  problems

O supreme
Vegetarian society
What is goal of keeping  me outside?

Binding me
In between birth and death
By hook of insult
What is kind of   violence  given(punishment).

O parashurama
To community of  valiant kshathriyas
Keeping axe   three times
To you   who  rounded around earth
Did you not feel unbearable by seing untouchables?

Oh all of them 
Seing your path
Base of plant,  in behind of bush
Covering face
 Might have hiden  enough.

Or for release of somebody
Not wishing rebirth
Searching liberation,the axe
Which might have been  come to your hand
Must be cursed (curseheld)brahmin
To chap of our ancesters
With reason of mylige(unholy)
Might have been told ‘no’

Instead of oosting (throwing) out of town
Would have pushed beyond bank

Like delivered dogs and caats
Kissing(pampering) my mother
Though lifted and made to play
Was crying for I becoming female
Again picking up chimdi(torn cloth,wastes)
While sleeping  in nooks and corners
She being caught in fist of
Uninvited(aaganthuka) people
Hearing struggling
Was fearing ,sweating.

Before appearance  of features of
My body surface
Behind border of night
How many invisible hands
Smeared this unmatured body.

Desiring  rootless life
Tender arrow (ambu)I am
What supported me is
To cell body and earn.

 Correcting eye brows
Powdering dirty face
  Moving  Artificial  local smile
With calling vision
Where ever there is place for doubt

Removing  wastes.

Why war showing adventure.

In clean water
In ship of desire
To new new life
Worrying(halubuva) kids
Is war  not plan of killing.

On head of awakenness
Hanging sword of  undecided
Is there boldness of avoiding?
Make war

to chap off cloud to feed water

Dusty eyes
Spoiled groundwel
Coming for latrine around
Like dogs and foxes
Humming butterflies.
Sitting rising again
Siting kind;this fellow!
Thamasa puthra of somaliya.

In stomach of
Rich local people undigested
Flying aeroplanes  excreting
To milk and eggs his mouth is always open.

Barren trees of dry land
Peel teeth can’t bite
Can’t show boldness
When   shrunken  stomach sounds
Passing from   guts(intestines).

To hot air of draught
Split earth-tongue
Is it cheek or not
Brahmakapala.
Has become bag(jolige)
Closing  shop of teeth line
Has become thin screen
Has become writer’s flag.

2)which is this athma(self)
Playing with ending jiva(life)
Wheather butcher
Or sincere person not leaving life friend
suddenly flying becoming butterfly
why should not build nest inside ear
sitting as low creature why should not count kibbari( chest side.)

breath you moov  where green exists
why do you rush into strengthless body.
For wasteful cry ,for hunger
Empty stomach  has become pump(thidi)
Getting filtered   has hit back
Breath has become squeezed and  waste(hippe)
Let there be lovely parrots  in
Weatern  owner’s  fruit garden now.
Without trouble fallen those
Left and right  shoulders if   became 
Eagle and fly,how many ulcers to beak.

Relation of seventy eight to kid of eight
Attached to flat chest of  twenty years mother
Boy who  sucked nipple
Sheding blood  became orphan
O self   heroless(athanthra) (neither on that side nor on this side) self
Became eagle (giduga)  eating this
Hungry body ,make up hunger

Hunger you are enemy
Finish up like this.

Carrying smile towards  air hostesses
Become ready for embracing their relatives.

Welcome of desirers  smiling face
On seing faces of kith and kins blossom further
Using  hand and body kissing onone side
To officers(authorities) and vips  appreciation(bho paraaku)
Dedication   (submission)  of   flower  garland.

On this side who are ready for flying
Who have come for Balugalisalu(?re sending)
Carrying unbearable  luggages and shyness
Keeping   in  push cart steping wabling
Again to become rice grain  in stomach  of bird
Stand in queue.

In my country aerodrum means
In midst of mud of water pond
On lotus leaf ,on that  are
Wine(drinks) cup of  amaravathi.
 cream of richness  coming hiting there.

In those people  with desirefuleyes who are sky faced
No beaty of this soil
A cigarette in hand of woman
Single ster(ring) in  in male’s ear
Beer can  instead of  tender coconut
Cornering nose star(muguthi)
And rearl   ear ornaments(ole)
Lasses shine calf muscles
Sleeveless  arms  blossomed(split)  chests.

Again their lust partners (madana sakharu)
long hairs dressed in parlour
half cut    inside  pants peeping  slices of thigh.

To these tell devil of richness has hit
To intoxicating treasure,these have brcome  slaves(servants) .

World wide sky wide  (cloud wide),excess wide  your maya
Here intellect won’t rule

Scientists doctors ,engineers students all
Education  pledged  old penanciers
Hanging to  astrologers,babas
Feeding milk to ganapa  telling life is blessed
Giving dream of  destructions(pralaya)
Tellingthis world as waste.

In this  calculation only
Road ,taps,hospitals,  pure air
All maya
Why all these mother,as whole sanjeevini
When there is your  sacred feet water.(padodaka)

Heat and dust
Your outward shadow
How many kinds of  enemity
In  big earthen pot(hageevu)!
In this land of burning sun
all the flowers which you delivered
spark becoming burning coal
wait for storm.
Becoming separate flowers
Won’t show anxiety of  joining flower garland.

Yours is holy land mother
In mind of those who are hungry and tired
Shadow of sword death  fear
Sticking (smearing)  kumkuma of  blood
Heads bent for killing(sacrifice,bali),sickle
Fearful dream  holding hands.

We are supporting   your swords and  canines(teeth)  valients
.one among your eight   arms
That which has held book
Let it hit once to our cheek ,then
Golden bharatha,to you  what hundred  thousand’s namanas(namaskarams)

This is our day
I told  grand father , walk  let us discharge  our rights
 Sleep will not leave ,no enthusiasm
‘Go’  told grand father

Snoring of grand father  was heard
Are we not sincere citizens  rise grand father I told.

 When we were dependents   in my childhood ,this bamboo
Roof was leaking.
In youth freedom  was got
Found dream of tiles; what happened

I became old
Bamboo roof  leaking leaking failed(tired)
Rolling upon me
Is going to become  burning wood.

Minimum facilities of  independence
Till they came to us
Will go on leaking child
Why dream of democracy  sleep  he told.

To my new enthusiasm  child
Grand father  sprayed (threw) cold water?
Smoking piece cigarete    thrown by brother
Who erase mustache by blunt blade
Now learnt to shy,my sister
This time pressing new vote seals.

Under residues   of democracy
Being caught pressed   grand father’s fossils.

All around fountains of joy
Fresh new vasantha(spring) heat within me.
Falling to   valley
Earth splitting summer
Branches branches  legs and hands
Are one one long stories
Pit eye downing vision
Symbolic  sorrowful poetries.

Is tree imitating me!
Cautious –your town is forest.
I am naadiga(shanubhog,localite)
Not foreigner
Protects me  source of life
Let rain fall come.

To her he is one wonder
He a secret to her

She an anxiety to him
He a  question to her

He can’t describe wonder
She can’t chase  secret

To him unsatisfiable anxiety(tension)
To her unanswerable question

 When bodies unite,minds different(separated)
When minds blend (mix ,unite)  body’s  anxiety

In life of different field
Searching for  non different(unique)  temple
Dissolving(merging) in   infinet time

If wanted to make nose itself as peg and tie
I can’t  grasp  smell it told.

In cage of eye lid

I am out of vision
Reachable  only to  divine response(divya spandana) it told

Will you enjoy on tongue I asked
I have no subordination of language  it told

Will you become ear ornament (bendole)  of ear I asked
It told to be deaf is my nature.

Let it go  you become linga in my palm  I asked
No body can touch me
 I am the first untouchable of  this world it told

Then how to get your grace  I asked
Making me ox of  rotary  and got earned
Ask that arahantha  it told.

Investing(huudi) noga(noga) of intellect
Land of body
To plough  from
That to this side,from this side to that.

Sowing seed of concentration
 To grow crop of   feeling(samvedane)
Knowing crop and  kale(grass around crop) are  temporal(temporary)
To observe  with equai  mind.

On  Part  and  part
Allowing   mind of linga to flow
Mind changing  it’s mental make up (attitude)
Anga(devotee)  retiring from his pain
To see.

Wnen dusk mooves and get awakened
I won’t bow my head to god’s  photo

Rubbing    eye bowing my head fallen in corner
Footwear(chappal) I will see once.

The footwear which I tread

Tearing the path it tread also
The ate  to pit fallen heel
Also getting teared(vanished)

In backyard or jaguli(stone stage)
Resting waiting

Truth realization, kanaka who found flash  of science
‘four classes(varnas) were created by me…..’told god
Getting grace of god is first riddle.

In bathroom Brahmins  ate bananas
Till not finding  places without god
Without being able to eat,returning to guru
Begged”give service,by opening door hari’
Like this;that is second riddle.

Sowing ragi,growing only ragi by trying to do naivedya of   feast food
Sighing to beets of whip
Surrendering to hari,did he ask to explode from pillar to narasimhas
Did his mother  went to pick up lion’s dung (berani)
and did union?
 All this  is  riddle………bundle of confusions
They did not open  door of temple
Made god to turn,drilled hole
Devotion remained outside only

Basava, why no yajnopaveetha(sacred thread) to akka
,made static linga(nonmoving ,sthaavaralinga) as karadige
kanaka  leaving bondage  inside temple
should   have come by  pulling flute.

Then it would have become   kanaka’s flute
We would have become  children of flute
Would have drunk mikk
Would have become  servants of oxes ploughing ragi land
Kanaka you also became  sheep of festival brought for killing.

can we hide inside of truth?

In waves of air
In mind wall of male
Can be prevented
Free moovment of dreams.

Holding other person as saithan
Before hiting
If one controls himself
Body vibrates in warmth.

Then tv and female
Shines as god’s creation
To rustend  mind of  lust

A blind was siting at the

to that sound  who will not nod  head.

This is not river’s sound
Due to force of air tree’s  leaves

36) a morning in peak town:
Everyday morning  after rising  up
While opening bolt of door,opposite house friend
Moving screen (aside)
Keeping “ shubhodaya” (good morning) in mouth
Used to throw one  smile.
