Translation of few poetries of  poetesses smt.M.R.kamala,dr.shashikala veeraiahewamy and smt rupa hasan selected from kannada kavi kaavya book no 25,published  by sundara  saahithya43,kalamandira,5th cross,a.na.su road,hamumanthanagara bengaluru-560019.i am gratefu to poetesses and publishers.

1)chaithra(spring):

Where he is hiden

This buding chaithra(spring)?

Slides opening inner door of chest

Without noise

Celebration of pregnancy in 

Body of barren

Filling fragrance to jasmine

 Fills up exciting.

 

Carrying shunya of life

To naked body

Making to wear green

Celebrates smantha.

 

To heat of this sun light

Withouut drying (bending)up

Making to wear flowers bodyful

Smiles kila kila

Life charm of motherhood

Making to flow in  mind and body

Some how disappears.

2) dark flower’s song:

Life is flower  of dark,

Buds out,

Slowly opens petals,

Anxiety for bees,

Nothing is seen.

 

All colour words  inner mind

Fade inside only.

Dreams are melting

Hiden feels bag

Will not open at all.

 

Morning rays

Only while shining

 Dispersed petals

Remind existance of flower’s existance.

to roofless shy

Bird has flied and laughed

Found like  a star(dot)

Hill tree green

Blue background.

 

Affectionate boy

Faned hand and called.

Flied tired bird

Joined warm hand.

 

Stared boy

Hill tree green

Without blue background

Mere bird.

Felt bland(tasteless)

Hand tightened.

 

 Shaking wing

To roofless sky

Bird flied and smiled

Found like  star

4) why do you trouble madhava?:

Why do you trouble madhava

This gopika of  of hut?

 

In severe sunlight of  vyshakha(spring)

In drilling winter snow

In wave and wave of yamuna

You only stand in lap kid

Why do you trouble madhava

 

‘Fearing to mother and father in law,fearingto neighbours around’

For one who tears (fades)life

Boldness of radhika?

To call flute tone

Though chest is disturbed

Sounding should be stoped.

 

To rythmic dance of  churning stick

Though hundreds  jathis(…………….?) explode

Beat should be avoided(missed)

 Speech of steps and leg chain

Not hiting to yamuna

Should be made silents

 

Why do you trouble madhava?

Love flowing along yamuna

 Hidingin small chest nest

Seing sighing

Gopika of this hut?

Under little star

Around standing womansmell of dew drops

Grass blade under leg wishpered.

Cool drop falling on body

Cloud of depression(sorrow,dullness)- moon became blind

Star wearing cover

Her sky became black.

Flashed line of poetry.

On coming and siting

Between words words

Silence-monotony.

Song melting like dark

Her sky became girl played veena

There one dream

Dream becoming pond

Lotus in pond!her sky became shining(bright)

Dream eyed boy

Drawing   rangoli of

Coloured figures in cheast yard….

Only long sigh,fear,fire,screaming!

Body becoming red champaka(sampige)

Filling up spark in shining eyes

Desire bud path

Ash,ash.

 

Dream eyed boy

After filing chest

Spliting body of dark laughed.

White white moon

In wishper of green wearing vasanthies

Is leg chain sound.

In madarang nail also

Buding golden excitement

What a fascinating?

Faithful warm life

Dream eyed boy

After filling chest!

7)can be got non crying hearts:

friend,

oven  without  flaming burning

in this land where earth burns

can be got non crying hearts

smiling lives without straining

stars in the eyes of kid of milk chin.

 

Chests burning dhaga dhaga

Will they talk friend

Some cool air talks?

To embrace you crossing

Red eye watch of valcano

Will they got  only one pair of wings?

 

Green emiting  full this land

 

Will mere moon light pour?

To severe sun light  bunch not falling

Nut maturing,turning to red

Friend will there be complete fruit?

Spilling leaves all over body

Slept this creeper

Bent towards towards tree.

 

Stalk detached

Parijatha flower hiding

In  arm of grass

 

In mirror of dew drops

Dull picture of embraced

 pair of birds found

 

in mud pond also

tender neck’s  biliyanche(white border?......)

floated along with

 

in eye river

coloured fishes

shining shining have gone

 

in body particle

honey river flooding

pouring as rasa

 

in day time sunlight also

sky moon

pouring moon light

9) station:

to this middle land(nadugadde)

how many boats  floating coming

how many rows passed through

in sorounding ocean border

how many stars twinkled

how many  ulkes(astroibs…?) fell?

 

From where do they come don’t know

 As though tired very much for bank

Who ever comes to this port

For these people onlt

All dedication feel.!

 

Who came-

Flew away like birds

 Climbed colourful   rain bow

 Swinged in swing(uyyale) of coconut leaf

 

Who came on water

Went   on water

Where step mark to water?

 10)one aloukika(adhyathmic,other world-

-transcendental  feel in loukika(in this world):

In front of house  fixed one

Parijatha plant and poured water

In memory of old friend

White stars in green plants!

Those found blosomed eyes

Fragrance coming up to room

Blosomed their nose beighbours

A aloukika feel in loukika!

 

Counting multiplying  days and nights

I was waiting only

Finally  on one day he came|

‘how much fine this plant

This flower,fragrance’  I described.

 

‘which plant,which flower

From where fragrance?telling

Coolly went off

 

What fine,this plant

This flower,fragrance’-tone of path moover

Did not praise lifting neck!

11) those who lost:

Dedicating jiva to jiva  who had liked

Today have  been forgoten

 

In dream.or road side

Meet like an unaquainted now and then

 

While passing through part felt as dream

In dream feeling like street have feared

 

Congested street confused  mind

Empty(charmless) houses-empty dream

 

Not opening window even for air and light

Siting in dark only  faning hand|

12) those hit by air(gaali badidavaru):

You,

Might have afraid

Reading bhupal news

yesterday

poison gas spreading

in non mooving silence

hut people  becoming log of wood,

 

sir,

is not new

to thjhis country leave !

this air that air

air of sympathy

like this

many storms blowing

every day people are

trembling.

 

These people

blind though having eye

deaf having ears

bribe

murders  roberies

rapes

drinking poisonous airs only

living!

 

Blosoming eye and nose

Tp cool air

Merely desiring

Those who have collapsed

at sitting place only

13) I can’t deliver you forever:

(after reading poetry of one african –american poet)

 

Don’t knock door daughter

Can’t open can’t call

Do you know daughter

what kind of poisinous  sin well is this

those all who  rule are giants

 

do you know daughter

what king of cruel cruel world this is

can’t open door,can’t  call you

sleep worryless,be static(fixed)

be waiting only in time beyond time

till I only come to you.

 

Don’t knock door daughter

can’t open can’t call you

to your truoblesome call

can’t bear pain of  becoming deaf

 

if you as beautiful as ‘desyri’

there are ‘tysons’ who give pain in tight fist

if forest moonlight is shakunthala

there are dushyanthas who set fire to  forest only

 

therefore ,child don’t knock door

can’t open,can’t call inside

to your troublesome call

can’t bear  pain of  becoming deaf-

14) will not fire become shadow?:

Friend ‘ rupa kanvar’

Became sathi

To drowsy   siting people

Threw flame.

Became news 

through out news  papers

 

song is old, friend

your raga also!

even in fire standing coolly

as old as  seetha’s story

 what ever is right

land of good customs(traditions)

residence of sathi(wife)  shiromanies(head beads)

here female like  me and you

what have they learnt?

 Killing of dreams

Becoming masthikallu(mahasathi stone)

Without lifting head,without walk

To become sahagamanes(dieing along with husband)

Flowd tear  in burning  dead body

Did it go as steam. Friend,

Did worn jasmine  blosom  overheated?

What if burnt?

Burning burning   did lamp  not give light

 

Will not dhupa(scented  material) give fragrance?

(for comparison also   is any poverty here?)

What if match stick is striked  to eye border dreams

Will not temples  be built!

sowd and grown within you

seed of huthathma (self sacrice for good cause)

spreading becoming big tree

along with females like me

will not fire become shadow?

15)lanka burning:

Who set fire to tail of of monkey?

Once more lanka burning!body full  bundle of buds,flower carrying

In body of fragrant eatrh (gandhavathi prithvi)  now

Smell of wet wet  deadbody(cadaver)!

 

These people,

noise  of heat of language  waves

when hit around become  islands.

write history in blood letters

in full  page and  page  shout of little child 

dream of overheated jasmine

fill up  pain.

 

In chest of  ravana also there may be  rama

Once again should be built  bridge bondage(sethu bandha)

Love should  be made to appear in  broken mind

Needed a little sqirel service.

16)coconut is  blowing fan(chamara):

In my nerves and pulses

Pond ,rivers are  flowing

In life of hot  banale(broad vessel)

Coconut is blowing fans

 

In dust smoke sky also

Stars are twinkling

In noisy heat of music

Wishpering is heard.

 

Soil sticked to leg

Is attached to skin only

Smell attached to hand

Is remaining though washed.s

 

Neft left bird

 

Is returning to house(nest) only

Though western air  blows

Root is not shaking.

He:burning coal

Me:who has kept snow ball in lap

He:pushing (pressing) away pain(sorrow)

Emiting boy

 

Me:crying meaninglessly,by crying

Troubling girl

He: in unknown  land  and cityalso wandering

Without limit wandering wanderer(vagabond)

Me: even in my own room also

Getting lost poetry

 

His:silence means song

Speech means   poetry

Memory like small story

Details,alum clear.

 

Mine:song means fate

Even in front of friends

Girl shaking to read

Dull-for cheap,not acceptable to mind

Paying one to double generous

Lonely-

Rhythm of poetry,veena tune

Friend only to jathi of dance.

 

He:like morning dew drop

Angry-melts

Smile of sunflower,for bright

 

Me:fire of body of sea

Will  become peaceful

To soft touch of moon hands.

18) shakunthaopakhyana:

Daughter of apsara

Beauty in split of hair,tip of nail!

Tree of asrama,even for vreeper boiling life intoxication

Falling flowing chest is now mad riveer

 

King of puru  dynasty came for hunt

Hunted only!

Who was plant with plant,who became deer kid

Who became  nature only inch by inch!

To one who was bored of artificiality of   garden creepers

Some intoxication in  forest moon light

In hot embrace of dushyantha also  to shakunthala

Attraction of  deer kid!

 

‘some how you are forest dweller?’

Getting intoxicated  laughing kept ring,walked off

Before  closure  count of each letter of ring

Who told I will come did never came!

 

Girl became statue writen in picture

Bud buded out in womb

Anxiety of pressing pump,girl became statue drawn in picture

Curse of durvasa did not touch  chest,did not touch mind

Friend ,priyamvada,how ever priyamvada

Kept quiet.

‘will anybody pour hot water to jasmine creeper?’

Duty faced now  kanva

To spread (creep)creeper of ashrama  to palace

 

Steps can’t be pulled out,to forest moonlight

Shankuthala feel of  pulling out root!

 

On this side king of dynasty of  moon(himakara)

Became himavantha only!

Believed ring also in in shachi!

At end shy, fear, tension

Opened screen(cover)

‘anarya!’

 

Gut of motherhood might

 have caused ‘chur’ to menaka

some support to upset girl

desire,life,dreams  came burning only

‘sarvadamana!’

 

Successor of puru  dynasty(kula),lion kid

Might be for bharatha only

Came running dushyantha.

Durvasa’s curse,reason of ring

Who gave and stood Laughed  seing at him

(‘laugh after eating pain is not laugh’)

To buded fingures  again celebration of  ring

Frozened girl-no no matured

Spoke coolly

‘I have no faith in this ring’

19)devayani:on one day of ashada:

Clouds of ashada

Heated lover’s blackened body

 

Giant shapes(devil shapes)

In mid day only   making to cover deep dark

Shake  chests.

Ashrama’s kattukadeva(……………….?) prunce’s horses

thunders

to one who has given chest to sky,ashada

why this tumult,why  air obsesion(compulsion)!

Lightning of heavenly world spliting rainy cloud

Will rain ,foolish desire

 

In which  mirror does face got lost

In which drama school  did leg chain fall

Step walked to sin well(kupa)?

How much bhaava(feel),vibhaava  ,anubhaava(mysticism)

 To dance of  devayani now

One feel’s avalamba-vipralambha!

Forest flower,twinkling insect,eye of kacha

Why do you trouble  though forest left

Body of yayathi-joined mansion!

 

One who has become intoxicated (innocent) to sanjeevini manthra

One who has left jiva(life) sanjeevini)

Who forgot one who gave relife

 

Still river is flowing singing

Is fragrancing(smelling)  flower garland  tied on some day!

20) clever:

The kept by grand mother to me

Father now also calling name

Name which became  goal of brothers negligence

Mother’s  karibevu’s asafotida oggarane’s

Ghama ghama esaru-this name

                             

They kept name jaane(clever) to me

For learning letters before talk

 For becoming eye of  blind grandmother

To come to this earth also

For having selected  first day of new year

They kept me name as jaane(clever)

 

Himala of my town;standing to border of siddhara hill

On telling myself clever(jaane)

Wonder to friends-jealous to she friends!

 

Later-himalaya of my town

Melting becoming stone hill

Got lost in valley

Name jaane(clever)

Felt bland   asafotida(ingu) oggarane also

Mycity rasam(saaru)

 

‘jaane on uniting jaana(clever) is like string united

Like  playing veena’ he told.

From where did this boy come?

jane means honey(jeenu),dizling of monsoon he told

from where does this boy come?

i play veena for him only,will become veena

will tie leg chain,will become step

I am searching me

am hearing singing.

In middle of  l these ink  letters

filling up kalasa(holy vessel)  am going for temple.

In winter chills

When I saw you

My body mind

Becoming hot is

True mava(maternal uncle)

standing on  river bridge

when laughing is seen

this hot of chest

like fire igniting banave( grass store)

burnibg dhaga dhaga

is not false

 

no mava

do you remember?

When I was small

In wet soil

After coming of rain

Thinking that you are building

Sparrow house

You killing it tying fence

Making me to sit inside

Eting burnt

Burning inside

Melting to heat

Am getting  frozened

Mother,

When I was very small

When father’s condition(incarnation?) was seen

have come for studies

you are not here;

your smiling face is there

no father;

his shadow is

 troubling still

 

leaving adakala

pot of kitchen

 you did not come to hall once.

 

Mother come and see here mother

These    city girls

Decorating throgh out day

Detach clothes to beauty  contest.

Telling again I will come cheated

And went kittu,

Come now fearer

Why have you become stone?

Standing on dead body of childern ,

who died without drop of  milk

you are asking milk abhisheka

shyless!

Give your piece of pithambara

To one who shivers  naked?

Put ,let us see milk ocean ‘s

One cup of milk

Who dies  by fasting?

Closed eye to murder and robery

Coward,have become  wicked

Joining as partner with

Dirt eating low people

Do you wear golden mushwhy mustache to you

Stealing sarees of   girls dirty

To you four four hands

Covering your godess makamal body,

Not for singing,mava(maternal uncle)

Lift thhose who have fallen

Press those who treaded ,if you are male

6) lover:

channamallikarjuna

akka, what an intelligent?

To  males of this world 

does not  know  what is love

how quickly you grasped?

True lover means

You only are see

Whaat if body  discolours to black?

What if shines?

Fold and dry up this skin

To you it was never big

 but

here story is different.while

coming in path of forest

to one girlmessing path ,caught in thorn

at the time of  getting beyond

 thorns   touching   bodyful

lines appeared.

Cried cried even forest stones

Poured tears.

But what to do?boy fell in chest of girl

I can’t lift up  words

Which you have thrown

In negligence

By these words kindless 

Negligence smell is coming

Membrane of false  has layered

This word is like selfless

Beautiful body.

Please you only accept  again

If possible excuse

Should boil  as ocean once

In bed of  depth of body

Exploding limits

 

Shold lick once

As red tongue

Burning thirsts

 

Strengthened  prides

Interwoven knot

Should pick up

Cries(hicufs)

 

Caught in

Umbilical cord

Net of nerve roots

Should be pulled off

 

Should rub covering

Deaths seed letters

 

 At least then this

9)happy person(sukhi):

Houseful congested

Sofa,friz,TV on seing

Neighbours became jealousy

To style (fancy) of sarees she wear

Shrunk(ed?) friends

With jealousy

 

To appreciating words of

Her printed stories and poetries

Pricked those who failed

Without  poverty of food and cloth

Who got fame

To always smiling joy

Thinking totally happy

People  got pained also

 

But,

Her pillows marks of tears

Except stars

Nobody  saw.

10) sathi(wife):

Friend do you know what is ‘loving’

Not mere pating playing my lips and waists

By mere mantap of talks, not burrying

Come at least once

You have to  get  wet in my tears

To my troubles you should pain

Apart from that always my responses(thuditha)

When you embrace shall I tell true friend?

In rasa moments of your deep embrace

I am rasaless orphan.

Not responding this body,being caught  by

Non-responding troubles of mind

Crying inside,smiling outside

In this grave  diged(dug?) in between you and me

Am becoming samadhi.

 severe condolences of your negligences

burning fully burning coals

in this feelless dead body fire of love

I am your sathi,even when you are living only

In front of you only, like this , I am going “sathi”.

11)prayer of flower:

O life,when thorn pricked  bited lips and beared

Flower petals have pierced,tearing dala dala

 

O life,

Peep into chest of this flower ans see

In drops and drops tears tickling

To eye of world this I shining dew drop

 

O life,

Like flower blosomed on graveyard

These are my gurus ,blamed by world

 

O life,

If eyes are closed at night enough

Opens doors  of  swounds piercing guts(intestine)

 

O life,

Lift this flower and press to chest

Has become dustful  being caught by boot of soldier

Has become wet without dew drops

To valient touch  heart has wabled(spillled)

 

O life,

Ever  coming near you

Did not request this is needed

Today  have kept leg

The pains which you give

Give power of tollerating,enough.

Carrying bag of floating dreams

eyes full

while climbing steps of life hill
